This series of four Junior Level music books provides for 2 years of musical enjoyment and accomplishment. Each book has been structured to meet and assist the musical development of children aged 4 1/2 to 7 years. The following features are fundamental to the Encore on Keys Junior Piano Series.

  • Songs: for enjoyment and musical expression
  • Finger Zips: micro pieces that introduce key concepts. Words that match the written score appear in a standard typeface, while additional words [spoken or sung], actions and activities are show in italics.
  • Repertoire Pieces: solo performance pieces that include Finger Zip elements in a larger and more expressive musical framework. Words are often included to enhance the learning process.
  • Ensembles: these develop part-playing skills, group interaction and include percussion parts for rhythm training. Word patterns and time names are interchangeable.
  • Flash-Cards: a proven way to reinforce and develop reading skills. The cards are shaped to sit behind the black keys and thus facilitate sight playing and rhythm reading actities.
  • Solfege/Solfa Singing: using solmization syllables [do, re, mi, fa,so, la, ti] from an early age develops a strong awareness of pitch. These syllables are easily assimilated with the letter names of the musical alphabet. Teachers are free to use letter names, solfege or a combination of both.
  • Music Notation: most of the pieces in Junior Level 1 use only treble staff notation to simplify music reading for young beginners. These pieces should not be restricted to only the right hand but may also be played with the left hand an octave lower and hands together at the octave whenever appropriate.
